Naukri key skills examples are useful only when you select the terms that match one target role and can support each important skill through work, projects, education or credible training.
How Naukri skill search works
Naukri’s recruiter database, Resdex, allows recruiters to search candidate profiles using keywords such as skills, designations and companies. Its current recruiter guidance says important keywords can be marked as mandatory, which can narrow results to profiles containing those terms.
Naukri’s job-posting guidance also asks employers to specify tools and software, practical skill sets, industry terms and relevant experience. It discourages generic phrases such as “hardworking” and “team player” and advises using specific words instead of full sentences.
Use recognisable skill names
Terms such as Java, Spring Boot, SQL, Excel, Salesforce, recruitment or financial reporting are clearer than personal descriptions such as “technology lover”.
Match one role direction
A focused Java-backend list is easier to interpret than a profile mixing Java, digital marketing, HR, machine learning and accounting.
Support the important skills
Recruiter discovery may begin with a keyword, but a person still reviews the resume, experience, projects and depth behind it.
No universal perfect list
The right skills depend on the vacancy, recruiter query, experience level and evidence. Naukri does not publish one fixed number that guarantees contact.
Four useful Naukri key-skill categories
| Category | What belongs here | Examples | Evidence expected |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tools and platforms | Software, systems and technical environments | Excel, Power BI, Salesforce, Informatica IICS, AutoCAD | A task, project, certification or work entry showing actual use |
| Technical methods | Languages, processes and specialist techniques | SQL, ETL, REST APIs, SEO, bank reconciliation | What you performed, built, analysed or delivered |
| Domain knowledge | Industry or functional knowledge needed for the role | GST, talent acquisition, B2B sales, manufacturing processes | Coursework, work context, project or practical exposure |
| Transferable skills | Work behaviours relevant to the target position | Stakeholder coordination, reporting, customer resolution | A specific example rather than an adjective alone |
A practical skill-selection method
- Choose one target role. Use one role or a closely related role family for the current application cycle.
- Review three realistic job descriptions. Record repeated tools, technical methods, domain terms and experience requirements.
- Separate required skills from optional skills. Do not add an optional technology merely because it appears in one advertisement.
- Mark your evidence level. Classify each skill as used in work, used in a project, learned with practice, or only briefly exposed.
- Select the strongest relevant terms. Prioritise the skills that are repeated in target jobs and supported by your evidence.
- Align the rest of the profile. Important skills should appear naturally in the headline, summary, experience, projects and uploaded resume where true.
Use the Naukri profile visibility guide to check the wider profile settings after fixing the skill list.
Use an evidence test before adding a skill
| Evidence level | Meaning | How to present it | Risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| Used in paid work | You applied the skill in a job, contract or freelance assignment. | Add the skill and describe the responsibility or output in employment. | Low when the claim is accurate. |
| Used in internship or project | You applied it to a defined practical task. | Add it and connect it to the internship or project description. | Low to moderate, depending on depth. |
| Practised during a course | You completed exercises or guided assignments. | Use only when relevant; keep the learning context clear. | Do not imply professional capability. |
| Brief exposure only | You watched lessons or tried the tool once. | Usually omit it until you build evidence. | High interview risk if listed as a core skill. |
Naukri key skills examples for IT and software roles
| Target role | Possible key skills | Evidence to show elsewhere |
|---|---|---|
| IT fresher | Core Java, SQL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Git, data structures, debugging | Academic or personal software projects; specify which technologies were actually used |
| Java backend developer | Core Java, OOP, Spring Boot, REST APIs, SQL, Hibernate/JPA, Git, unit testing, debugging | API, database, validation, testing or production-support work |
| Python developer | Python, SQL, Flask or Django, REST APIs, Git, Pandas, automation scripting, debugging | Application, API, script or data-processing project |
| Informatica IICS developer | Informatica IICS, Cloud Data Integration, ETL, SQL, mappings, taskflows, parameterisation, data integration, troubleshooting | Source-to-target work, transformations, schedules, error handling and production support |
| SQL developer | SQL, PL/SQL, joins, stored procedures, query optimisation, database design, data modelling, MySQL or Oracle | Queries, procedures, performance improvement or reporting work |
| Software tester | Manual testing, test cases, defect tracking, regression testing, API testing, SQL, Jira, Selenium basics | Test plan, defect lifecycle, automation project or release-testing example |
| Technical support | Troubleshooting, ticketing systems, Windows, Linux basics, networking basics, incident management, customer support | Issues resolved, escalation process, ticket volume or service documentation |
Do not add both “basics” and advanced tools without explaining the difference. For example, someone with a guided Selenium exercise should not present automation testing as equivalent to professional framework experience.
Naukri key skills examples for data and analytics
| Target role | Possible key skills | Evidence to show elsewhere |
|---|---|---|
| Data analyst fresher | SQL, Excel, Power BI, data cleaning, data visualisation, dashboards, reporting, basic statistics | Dashboard or analysis project using a documented dataset |
| Business analyst | Requirement gathering, business analysis, process mapping, documentation, Excel, SQL, stakeholder coordination, user stories | Process, requirement or reporting example; label academic projects honestly |
| Power BI developer | Power BI, Power Query, DAX, data modelling, dashboards, SQL, data visualisation, reporting | Model design, measures, refresh process or dashboard use case |
| Data engineer | SQL, Python, ETL, data pipelines, cloud data platforms, data warehousing, orchestration, data quality | Pipeline architecture, transformation logic, scheduling or monitoring work |
“Data science”, “machine learning” and “AI” are broad labels. Add the exact languages, libraries, methods and projects that justify them rather than using the umbrella term alone.

Change the skills list with your experience level
| Candidate level | What to emphasise | What to avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Fresher | Core tools, fundamentals, projects, coursework and genuine practical exposure | Senior strategy terms, ownership claims or technologies never used |
| 1–3 years | Day-to-day tools, delivery methods, production context and role-specific responsibilities | Listing every training topic as equal to work experience |
| Experienced professional | Specialist depth, domain knowledge, architecture, leadership or scale where supported | Overloading the list with obsolete beginner-level terms |
| Career switcher | Transferable skills plus new target-role skills backed by recent projects | Hiding the transition or claiming the target title prematurely |
| Returning professional | Previous core experience plus current tools, refreshed knowledge and recent evidence | Leaving outdated skills as the only visible profile signal |
How to handle soft skills
Generic adjectives are weak search terms. Replace them with specific work capabilities where relevant:
| Generic phrase | More useful term | Evidence example |
|---|---|---|
| Good communication | Client communication or stakeholder coordination | Coordinated status and requirements with clients and internal teams |
| Team player | Cross-functional collaboration | Worked with development, testing and operations teams during a release |
| Leadership | Team mentoring or project coordination | Guided two trainees or coordinated a defined project workstream |
| Problem solving | Troubleshooting, root-cause analysis or issue resolution | Investigated recurring failures and documented corrective steps |
Keep soft skills only when they matter to the target role and the profile shows where they were demonstrated.

Naukri key-skills mistakes to avoid
| Mistake | Why it is risky | Correction |
|---|---|---|
| Copying an entire example list | The profile claims skills you may not possess. | Select only skills supported by your evidence. |
| Mixing unrelated career tracks | The profile becomes difficult to match and understand. | Use one current role direction. |
| Using only adjectives | Generic phrases are weak recruiter keywords. | Prioritise tools, methods and domain capabilities. |
| Repeating the job title as a skill | It adds little information about how you perform the role. | List the capabilities used in that job. |
| Adding abbreviations only | The recruiter may search a standard or expanded variation. | Use recognised naming and natural variations where space allows. |
| Leaving old skills untouched | The section may no longer support the current target. | Review after meaningful role or capability changes. |
| Profile and resume mismatch | Contradictions weaken trust after discovery. | Reconcile titles, tools, dates and evidence. |
