Home›Scholarships & Costs›Scholarships for Indian Students in Canada 2027
Scholarships for Indian students in Canada are spread across university entrance awards, full undergraduate funding, graduate leadership scholarships, faculty awards, research assistantships and federal doctoral programmes. There is no single national scholarship form that covers every route.
This guide separates opportunities confirmed for 2027 from current 2026/27 reference awards and after-enrolment funding. Use current figures to plan, but verify the final amount, deadline and conditions on the official page before subtracting funding from your budget.
Funding rule: a scholarship is part of your financial plan only after you receive written confirmation. A possible award should never be used to make an otherwise unaffordable Canadian programme appear affordable.

How GradVix Labels Canada Scholarship Information
| Label | Meaning | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Confirmed for 2027 | The official source names the 2027 intake and publishes dates or conditions. | Build your timeline around it, while checking for later amendments. |
| Current 2026/27 reference | The award is active, but the 2027/28 amount or dates may not yet be published. | Use it for shortlisting and budget scenarios, not as guaranteed funding. |
| Automatic consideration | No separate scholarship form is normally required after a valid admission application. | Admission quality and the correct deadline still matter. |
| Separate application | An additional scholarship form, nomination, profile or interview is required. | Track the award deadline independently of admission. |
| After-enrolment funding | The applicant must already be registered at a Canadian institution. | Do not treat it as pre-admission funding for the deposit or visa. |

The University of Toronto describes Pearson as its most prestigious award for international undergraduate students. It covers tuition, books, incidental fees and full residence support for four years. Approximately 37 scholars are selected annually.
2027 eligibility
- The student must be an international applicant requiring a Canadian study permit.
- The student must be in the final year of senior secondary school in 2026/27 or have graduated no earlier than June 2026.
- The student must begin first-entry undergraduate study at U of T in September 2027.
- Students already attending post-secondary study, or beginning post-secondary study in January 2027, are not eligible for this route.
Confirmed deadlines
| Step | Deadline | Action |
|---|---|---|
| School nomination | October 9, 2026 | Coordinate with the principal or counsellor early; a school can nominate one student. |
| U of T admission application | October 16, 2026 | Apply to at least one eligible undergraduate programme. |
| Pearson application | November 6, 2026 | Use the private link issued after valid nomination and admission application. |
Fraud warning: U of T states that the Pearson programme does not use education agents to recruit students or offer scholarships. Do not pay anyone for a nomination or guaranteed award.
Evidence that strengthens a competitive application
| Weak evidence | Stronger evidence |
|---|---|
| “I joined many clubs.” | Explains the problem, responsibility, number of people reached and measurable result. |
| “I am a leader.” | Shows a difficult decision, how others were coordinated and what changed. |
| “I want to help society.” | Connects sustained action to the intended subject and future contribution. |
| Generic school recommendation | Specific comparison with peers, supported by academic and community evidence. |
McCall MacBain Scholarship: Confirmed 2027 Route
McCall MacBain supports eligible master’s and second-entry professional programmes at McGill. The Summer/Fall 2027 application cycle is open.
The full award includes:
- Tuition and fees for the normal duration of the eligible programme.
- CAD 2,300 per month during academic terms.
- A relocation grant for moving to Montreal.
- Potential summer initiative support where applicable.
The programme states that up to 30 full scholarships and 100 entrance awards are offered annually.
International deadline
Applicants studying at or graduating from universities outside Canada and the United States have a confirmed deadline of August 19, 2026 at 4:00 PM Eastern Time.
The scholarship application is separate from McGill admission and requires two reference forms. Scholarship candidates then apply separately to an eligible McGill programme by the relevant deadline.
Selection factors
- Exceptional character.
- Community engagement.
- Leadership potential.
- Entrepreneurial spirit.
- Academic strength and intellectual curiosity.
A high CGPA alone is not enough. The application should show how past leadership and service connect to the proposed graduate programme and future plans.
UBC International Undergraduate Awards
International Major Entrance Scholarship
UBC publishes a 2026/27 IMES value of CAD 10,000–25,000 per year. It is renewable for up to three additional years, subject to the university’s conditions and funding.
Eligible applicants are automatically considered after applying by the admission deadline. Selection considers academic achievement, intellectual promise and extracurricular or community involvement.
2027 planning status: use the current range as a reference until UBC publishes the 2027/28 value.
Outstanding International Student Award
The OIS Award is a one-time merit award issued with admission to selected students. UBC’s current page still displays a 2025/26 value range, so that amount should not be presented as confirmed 2027 funding.
International Scholars Program
This route is designed for high-achieving applicants with significant financial need, strong extracurricular involvement and community contribution. It has a separate nomination and application process.
Applicants should read the route rules carefully because nomination for need-and-merit funding can affect consideration for IMES and OIS.
UBC Okanagan automatic awards
| Award | Current value | How it works |
|---|---|---|
| Global Elevation Award | CAD 8,000 per year | Automatic for eligible new international undergraduates at UBC Okanagan; renewable for up to four years or degree completion. |
| International Welcome Award | CAD 5,000 in the first year | For eligible applicants listing an Okanagan degree as first choice, receiving admission and enrolling in that programme. |
Automatic does not mean fully funded. Calculate the remaining tuition and living expenses in the Canada cost guide.
University of Waterloo International Scholarships
Waterloo’s current scholarship page includes new CAD 10,000 awards for students applying to most programmes. It also states that selected Engineering, Mathematics and Science awards can reach CAD 80,000.
Important differences by faculty
- Some awards require no separate application and use admission grades, supplementary forms, interviews or competitions.
- Some awards require an application through the applicant portal.
- Faculty of Environment awards currently show April 1, 2027 deadlines for selected applications.
- Faculty of Science international scholarships currently range from CAD 25,000 to CAD 80,000 and require an application.
- The maximum headline amount applies only to selected programmes and applicants.
Do not read “up to CAD 80,000” as the expected award. Record the exact faculty, programme, application requirement, amount, payment schedule and renewal condition.
Canada Graduate Research Scholarship — Doctoral
The federal CGRS D programme currently provides CAD 40,000 per year for 36 months. It supports research-oriented doctoral study across eligible disciplines.
International applicants face an important restriction: they must already be registered in their doctoral programme at an eligible Canadian institution by the application deadline. Up to 15% of awards are available to international applicants.
This means an Indian student applying from India for future PhD admission should not treat CGRS D as guaranteed pre-admission funding. First confirm the university’s own funding package, supervisor support and departmental awards.
Deadline warning: applicants submitting through a Canadian institution often face an internal deadline well before the agency’s October 17 direct deadline.
What Does a Scholarship Actually Change?
Subtract only the confirmed amount and only from the expenses it covers.
| Scholarship wording | Questions to answer |
|---|---|
| “50% tuition scholarship” | One year or the full programme? Tuition only or compulsory fees too? |
| “Full tuition” | Are housing, food, insurance, books and travel excluded? |
| “Renewable” | What GPA, credit load or conduct conditions must be maintained? |
| “Entrance award” | Is it paid once or across multiple years? |
| “Assistantship” | What is stipend, tuition support and required work? |
| “Up to” an amount | What do typical recipients receive and which programmes qualify? |
Illustrative undergraduate budget
Living and setup: CAD 28,000
Confirmed entrance award: CAD 15,000
Remaining first-year cost: CAD 68,000
The award is meaningful, but the family still needs a complete plan for CAD 68,000 and later years.
Illustrative full scholarship
A Pearson award can remove tuition, books, incidental fees and residence costs, but students should still verify personal expenses, travel, insurance treatment and any costs outside the award terms.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are Canada scholarships available to Indian students?
Yes. Eligibility depends on the institution, degree level, academic record, leadership, financial need, research route and award-specific rules.
Which Canada scholarships are confirmed for 2027?
The University of Toronto Pearson route and McCall MacBain route currently publish confirmed 2027 eligibility and deadlines. Other awards may still display current 2026/27 values.
Can a scholarship be used as proof of funds?
A written scholarship award can support the funding plan to the extent of its confirmed amount and coverage. An application or possible award should not be counted.
Do all scholarships require a separate application?
No. Some awards are automatic after an admission application, while others need nomination, essays, references or an additional form.
Can international students apply for CGRS D before entering Canada?
International applicants must already be registered in an eligible Canadian doctoral programme by the application deadline.
Should I accept an offer before the scholarship result?
Compare the deposit deadline, refund policy, expected award date and unaided budget. Do not pay a non-refundable amount based only on hoped-for funding.
