Published 28 October 2026Resume writing guideFor freshers, students and experienced professionals in India
The “about me” section of a resume is a two- to four-line introduction under your name that tells a recruiter who you are, what role you want and the strongest reason to keep reading.
Quick answer: Write 2–4 lines in this order: who you are (degree or experience level), your two or three most relevant skills, one proof point such as a project, internship or result, and the role you are targeting. Leave out hobbies, family details and generic words like “hardworking” or “passionate”. Label the section “Profile” or “Summary” rather than “About Me”. For longer, evidence-led versions, see our resume summary for freshers examples.

On a resume, “about me” is not a personal biography. It is the short introduction at the top of the page that recruiters read first, usually in a few seconds. Depending on your stage, it works as a career objective (what you want and can offer) or a professional summary (what you have already done).
Place it directly below your name and contact details and above your skills, experience or projects. Most Indian recruiters and portals such as Naukri expect a heading like Profile, Summary or Career Objective, so use one of those instead of the words “About Me”. The content stays the same; only the label changes.
Why it matters: a recruiter screening 200 applications for one role reads the top third of your resume first. A specific about me section tells them in one glance whether the rest of the page is relevant to their vacancy.

“B.Com graduate skilled in…”

In practice, an about me section for a fresher reads like a resume objective for freshers, and for an experienced person it reads like a summary. Pick the style that matches your evidence.

About me me kya likhe? (Hinglish)
Resume ke “about me” section mein apni personal kahani nahi, balki job ke liye apni pehchaan likhni hoti hai. 2–4 lines mein ye likhiye: aap kaun hain (degree ya experience), 2–3 skills jo aap sach mein jaante hain, ek proof jaise project ya internship, aur kaunsa role chahte hain. Hobbies, family details aur “hardworking, honest” jaise words mat likhiye. Resume English mein hi rakhiye.
About me mistakes to avoid
Weak
“I am a hardworking, honest and passionate person looking for a job in a reputed company where I can grow.”
No role, no skills, no proof. It could describe anyone.
Better
“MBA HR graduate trained in sourcing and onboarding, with an internship supporting campus hiring for 40+ roles. Seeking an HR executive role in talent acquisition.”
Role, skills and proof in two lines.
Writing a biography. Your hometown, parents’ names and hobbies belong elsewhere, if anywhere.
Using the same text for every job. Change the target role and skill order to match each vacancy.
Claiming skills you cannot explain. Interviewers often start with whatever you put at the top.
Writing a paragraph of 8 lines. Keep it to 2–4 lines so it is read, not skipped.
Copying a sample word for word. Recruiters see the same popular lines repeatedly. Use samples for structure only.
About me on a resume vs “tell me about yourself” in an interview
The resume version is 2–4 written lines. The interview answer is a 60–90 second spoken story that expands the same points: who you are, what you have done and why this role. Keep them consistent. For the spoken version, use our guide to tell me about yourself for freshers.
About me checklist
Placed directly under name and contact details.
Labelled Profile, Summary or Career Objective.
2–4 lines long.
Names one target role.
Includes 2–3 skills you can prove.
Has one concrete proof point.
No hobbies, family or personal details.
No generic words like hardworking or passionate.
Matches your LinkedIn and Naukri profile.
Rewritten for each important application.
Finish the rest of your resume
Add a matching resume headline, list skills that match the job, then check the full resume against the job description.
What should I write in the about me section of a resume?
Write who you are, two or three skills that match the job, one proof point such as a project, internship or result, and the role you are targeting. Keep it to two to four lines.
How do I write about me in a resume as a fresher?
Start with your degree, add two or three skills you have practised, mention one project or internship and end with the role you want. Example: BCA graduate skilled in HTML, CSS and JavaScript, with two live websites, seeking a junior web developer role.
Should I write “About Me” as the heading?
Use Profile, Summary or Career Objective instead. These headings are more common on Indian resumes and are easier for applicant tracking systems to recognise.
How long should the about me section be?
Two to four lines, roughly 30 to 60 words. Anything longer is usually skipped by recruiters.
Is about me the same as a career objective?
For freshers they are very similar, because both name the target role and what you offer. For experienced candidates, about me usually reads like a professional summary of results.
Can I write about my hobbies in the about me section?
No. Keep the section focused on skills and proof relevant to the job. Add a hobby only in a separate line, and only if it supports the role.
