Home›University Applications›Netherlands University Application Timeline 2027
A Netherlands university application timeline for 2027 must separate the Studielink registration, institution portal, numerus-fixus selection, scholarship deadline, diploma evaluation, tuition and proof-of-funds payment, IND residence process and housing search. The final course deadline is not a safe starting point.
Use the Netherlands pillar guide first. This timeline then converts the decision into an application plan.
Core deadline rule: 15 January is the fixed Studielink deadline for applicable numerus-fixus programmes. Other non-EEA deadlines vary by institution and programme—live 2027 examples range from 1 April to 1 June. The programme page controls.

Application Route Map
| Route | First step | Additional step | Main risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| Regular programme using Studielink | Register in Studielink | Complete institution portal and documents | Studielink alone does not complete assessment |
| Numerus fixus | Apply in Studielink by 15 January | Complete selection activities | Late application or missed ranking-place acceptance |
| Programme using direct/institution route | Follow the institution’s international application | Complete immigration and payment steps after admission | Assuming Studielink is always required |
| Research master or selective programme | Programme portal and academic evidence | Interview, portfolio, test or faculty selection | Applying without prerequisite mapping |
| PhD vacancy | Apply to employment/research vacancy | Employment and residence process | Following a taught-master’s timeline |
Before entering a portal, verify the programme through the NVAO and IND recognised-sponsor checks.
Numerus Fixus Timeline
| Milestone | Current national rule |
|---|---|
| Application deadline | 15 January, 23:59 CET, when Studielink applies |
| Maximum applications | Normally two numerus-fixus programmes per academic year |
| Selection period | 15 January–15 April |
| Ranking number | Released through Studielink on 15 April |
| Place acceptance | Within two weeks of the offer |
Medicine, dentistry, dental hygiene and physiotherapy have stricter application-count exceptions. Institutions control selection criteria and activities.
Failure point: A strong ranking is lost automatically if the offered place is not accepted within two weeks.

- Earlier scholarship or selection deadlines.

Housing Timeline
Begin housing research after shortlisting and act immediately after a serious offer. Do not wait for the visa result if the institution’s legitimate housing window closes earlier.
- Ask the institution what it offers and what it does not guarantee.
- Verify address registration.
- Use a written contract.
- Avoid unverified advance payments.
- Budget temporary accommodation only as a backup.
Common Failure Cases
| Failure | Why it breaks the plan | Correct action |
|---|---|---|
| Completing only Studielink | The institution portal remains incomplete | Track both systems |
| Missing 15 January | Numerus-fixus application closes | Submit early |
| Not accepting ranking offer | Place is reassigned after two weeks | Monitor Studielink |
| Assuming 1 May applies everywhere | Non-EEA deadline may be earlier or later | Use exact programme date |
| Delaying housing | No room is available before arrival | Start early and verify contracts |
| Ignoring proof-of-funds payment timing | Institution cannot submit immigration file | Coordinate loan/sponsor cash flow |
