Updated July 2026Official-source Ireland guideFor Indian students planning 2027

To study in Ireland in 2027, an Indian student must verify the exact qualification, provider, programme eligibility for immigration, tuition, financial evidence, visa documents and the conditions attached to Stamp 2 and the Third Level Graduate Programme. An admission letter alone does not prove that the programme is recognised or eligible for student immigration permission.

Use this guide with the GradVix country comparison. Ireland can be a strong choice for technology, data, pharmaceuticals, engineering, finance, business and research, but housing pressure and high tuition can materially change the return on investment.

Core Ireland rule: Verify both the qualification and the immigration route. Check the Irish Register of Qualifications and NFQ level, then confirm the exact programme appears on the ILEP or the applicable TrustEd Ireland eligible-programme list.

Who Should Seriously Consider Ireland?

Strong fit

  • Your exact programme is recognised and immigration-eligible.
  • You want an English-taught degree in a compact European market.
  • Your budget works without depending on part-time employment.
  • You understand that Stamp 1G is temporary graduate permission, not guaranteed settlement.

Proceed carefully

  • You are choosing a private provider without checking QQI and ILEP/TrustEd status.
  • Your tuition deposit is large and the refund policy is unclear.
  • Your housing plan begins only after visa approval.
  • You assume every level 9 course gives two automatic years after graduation.

Reconsider

  • The programme cannot be found in official systems.
  • Your budget depends on 20 hours of work every week.
  • The provider promises guaranteed employment or an employment permit.
  • You cannot show the required funds independently of casual work.

Understand Ireland’s NFQ Levels

NFQ level Typical major award Graduate-route relevance
Level 7 Ordinary bachelor degree Not the standard level cited for the Third Level Graduate Programme
Level 8 Honours bachelor degree Eligible graduates may receive up to 12 months under Stamp 1G
Level 9 Master degree or postgraduate diploma Eligible graduates may receive up to 24 months in two 12-month blocks
Level 10 Doctoral degree Eligible graduates may receive up to 24 months, subject to programme rules

The Irish Register of Qualifications is the national database of qualifications included in the NFQ and the programmes leading to them. It also identifies awarding bodies and quality-assured providers.

How to Verify the Exact Programme

  1. Search the qualification and provider in the Irish Register of Qualifications.
  2. Record the NFQ level and awarding body.
  3. Check whether the programme is listed on the Interim List of Eligible Programmes or the applicable TrustEd Ireland eligible-programme list.
  4. Match the campus, study mode, intake and full-time status.
  5. Check learner protection, total fees and refund policy.
  6. Confirm whether the award supports Stamp 1G and your intended career or further study.

Use the detailed Irish university and programme verification guide before paying.

Admission Requirements

Irish institutions set their own academic and English-language requirements. A credible application should verify:

  • Exact prior-degree subject and grade requirements.
  • Whether a three-year Indian bachelor degree is accepted for the selected postgraduate programme.
  • English test, section minimums and test validity.
  • Work-experience requirements for business or specialist programmes.
  • Portfolio, interview, references or coding prerequisites.
  • Whether the offer is conditional and what must be submitted later.

Financial Evidence

Current Irish immigration guidance requires a student on a course resulting in residence longer than eight months to show access to €10,000 for living expenses, separate from tuition. For shorter courses, the current requirement is €833 per month, up to €6,665 for eight months.

This is an immigration minimum, not a realistic promise that €10,000 will cover every student’s annual living costs, especially in Dublin.

First-year Ireland funding plan =
confirmed tuition and mandatory fees
+ at least €10,000 immigration living-fund evidence
+ visa and registration costs
+ insurance
+ flight and housing deposit
+ emergency and currency buffer

Use the Ireland cost guide for worked budgets.

Long-Stay Study Visa

For study longer than three months, visa-required applicants use the long-stay study route. Immigration Service Delivery currently permits applications up to three months before travel.

  1. Receive an eligible full-time programme offer.
  2. Pay the required programme fees through an approved electronic route.
  3. Complete AVATS honestly and print the summary form.
  4. Submit passport, photographs, application letter and acceptance letter.
  5. Provide academic ability, language evidence and a complete explanation of education or employment gaps.
  6. Provide financial evidence and private medical insurance.
  7. Submit documents to the office identified by AVATS within 30 days.

If course fees are below €6,000, current rules require full payment before the visa application. If fees exceed €6,000, at least €6,000 must be paid, although the institution may require more.

Visa-integrity rule: A five-year visa ban can apply in some cases involving false or misleading information. Explain gaps, funding and prior refusals accurately.

Work Rights on Stamp 2

Eligible non-EEA students on Stamp 2 can currently work:

  • Up to 20 hours per week during term time.
  • Up to 40 hours per week during June, July, August and September.
  • Up to 40 hours per week from 15 December to 15 January.

Integral internships on eligible NFQ level 7 or above programmes can exceed 20 hours where they earn ECTS credit, contribute to the award and do not exceed 50% of the programme duration.

Third Level Graduate Programme and Stamp 1G

Irish award Potential graduate permission Important limit
NFQ level 8 Up to 12 months Total time on the student pathway must remain within the applicable limit
NFQ level 9 or above Up to 24 months, normally in two 12-month blocks The second period is conditional and not automatic permanent residence

Stamp 1G allows full-time employment while seeking an employment-permit-eligible role. It does not allow self-employment or operating a business. Before Stamp 1G ends, the graduate must qualify for another permission—commonly through an employment permit—or leave Ireland.
